Trying to Decide whether to go with billet or mesh style grill inserts on my 04. It's a Quad 4x4 Sport plus. The bumper is body color, the grill surround is
chrome, and Im tired of looking at the little black slats in there. Which do you guys think would look better with that setup?

You remind me of a girl i once dated, couldn't make a decision for herself to save her life. No self esteem. Find one YOU like, who cares if someone else likes it.

eddy,

Being from Texas, I'm glad you asked about types of grills. I've been thru many of them.

Currently I use a 'New Braunfels' smoker, that has the fire box on the side for a true smoker, and can also double as a grill.

For my crawfish, or frying whole turkeys, I use an outdoor Propane fired burner.

What,

Oh, that kind of grill,

Never Mind!
:-)

Thanks for the help. Guess Ill head over and post my question at Dodge Truck World where people tend to post only when they have useful input.

prefer billet, but I've got a lifted '01 QC 4x4. If I had an R/T, I'd go with the mesh.

I do think that you should look at both and determine what looks best to you.

I actually am on my second billet grill. the first one was kinda flush with the trim - it zip tied to the existing slats, but the one I got now sits deeper and replaces the slats. Again, just a matter of taste - although I have been told that I don't have any (mostly by woman)

Eddy, do yourself a favor...

Trade that thing in on a Ford Ranger!

Second complaint I've heard from him in three posts about his Dakota...

He doesn't like the gas mileag, either.

Paint the black slats whatever color you like, Eddy. I won't complain about it.

The other gas mileage post was meant to be taken tongue in cheak. If youve read any of my other posts youd see right now I could really care less what my mileage is.

As for complaining about the slats...isnt that the start of any cosmetic mod? Not disliking a certain aspect of your vehicle's looks or thinking they could be improved upon? OVerall so far I LOVE my quad and think it's one of the most versatile vehicles out there.

If you dont have a pic of a custom grill on your truck to post or an opinion on what looks best, you serve no useful purpose whatsoever by responding to this post and it makes me wonder if you are the same useless waste of space in other areas of your life.

Eddy, Maybe I can restore your faith in this forum.

I have a black 2002 R/T with chrome Street Scene Speed Grills. They totally changed the look of the truck. With my chrome wheels and black paint they look amazing. If I had the older style of RT rims (plain aluminum), I'd probably go with the brushed version of the Speed Grills. The uppers are easy to install, but with the oil cooler installed in front of the radiator, the lowers were a pain (but doable).

See, we're not all sitting around on our computers thinking of stupid things to say. But honestly, there is something to say about just doing whatever catches your eye or whatever floats your boat. I didn't buy a cool looking truck for others to look at, I got it because I like the way it looks. Good luck.

Makes perfect sense, its just I dont know what a mesh style grill would look like with my chrome factory grill surround, as all the Daks I see with my factory setup normally have billet so it was difficult to make the decision without ever having seen one. Regardless, I got IRS issues to resolve now so no more toys until I know what Uncle Sam plans to rape me for.

Eddy- If you want send me an email and I'll send you a pic of my mesh grill. I actually shaved out the cross section, bought a sheet of mesh from summit and installed with 5200. I think it looks a lot better and tottaly custom, but you gotta know how to glass and do body work. I also installed a thin piece of aluminum bar extented down to pop the hood latch.
