Subject: BAD LOWER BALL JOINTS???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 99 dakota with 88K and i just had the upper balljoints replaced because i heard the dreaded metal on metal grinding noise when i made turns at slow speeds. After i had the uppers replaced, i still hear the grinding noise. Are my lower ball joints bad too or could this be another problem? Also are the lowers a factory defect like the uppers are?

I am not sure if they are a factory defect or not but my 98 Dak with only 88000 kms had uppers and lowers replaced twice by the dealer. All garbage. I went to a local Midas shop where I know the guys and they told me that the factory ball joints are garbage and reccommended MOOG ball joints, also they have a lifetime warranty!

I watched a special that was talking about the Dodge Trucks / Durangos from that time frame and they said that they are made incorrectly or something... there are many law suits flying from this, and supposedly they're thinking about a recall of some kind but it just hasn't happened yet. To say the least if you don't drive like a maniac you shouldn't have a HUGE problem with it (from what I gathered from what they were saying on the special)... just take care of your truck and it will take care of you :)
