 Subject: Check Engine with only 19K

My truck is nearing the 20K mile mark. 2002 Dakota 4x4. This morning started the truck, backed out of the driveway and noticed my engine light was on. Is it programmed to come on at 20,000 miles? I have an appt with the dealership for Monday to have it checked out. I really notice no difference in the truck though.

Check your collant. I have a 2000 with 41,000 on it. It is a V-6 3.9. And my collant was low. Come to find out I had a intake bolt rust off and had it fixed and the next week two freeze plugs started leaking. Don't know if it was just my luck or some ting is wrong. The dealer will not/cant tell me why it happened. Good Luck! Tina

This has nothing to do with your coolant. One way to get that code is a loose gas cap.

I had the same code on my truck, twice. First time they replaced some parts of the evaporative emmissions equipment. Got the same code agaian a few months later. This time they reflashed the computer, saying that there was a problem with the computer reporting a small leak when in fact there is none. No codes since then. I wonder if this was the infamous "flash of death"?

Took it to the dealer yesterday. They replaced the gas cap and everything seems to be fine now. There was a lot of rust in the gas cap and I noticed some had fallen in around the opening of the tank too.
