Message: well steve i did it i ordered a case of 10w30 amsoil synthetic and recieved it today.I have done the math and have concluded that if i extend my drains to 7500 miles instead of 3000 with a synthetic blend it equals about the same cost .what i would like reassurance on is that amsoil 10w 30 syntetic is still a better oil at 7500 miles than syn- blend is at 3000 miles can you assure me of this? also can you say for sure that the amsoil will hold up for 7500 miles under any driving conditions?I was thinking of doing oil analysis to prove these points to myself but to costly.you seem pretty honest and i know you have the test data to prove it so i will value your opinion.also i know you will proably say amsoil will go beyond 7500 miles but that is as far as i feel comfortable going between oil changes.
thanks

First let me say to everyone that I have been traveling for the last 10 days. I have continued to answer questions on forums via remote locations (hotel rooms and airports) --- and catalog requests have been processed from my office. However, I have been a little slow to answer emails. I am as of today --- beginning to weed thru my Emails --- 191 as of last night. If anyone has sent me an email and not gotten a response, I assure you that I will get to your email today. Thank You.

Thank You andys1960,
I assume that you ordered and received Amsoil SAE 10w-30 Synthetic Motor Oil, Product Code ATM, or was it Amsoil XL7000 SAE 10w-30, Product Code XLT? I always recommend Product code ATM vs. XLT --- due to the fact there are only a few pennies difference in price. Product Code ATM is rated at 25k mile oil change interval --- and Product Code XLT is rated at 7.5k mile oil change interval.

Answer to your question:
Both oils will easily allow for 7.k mile oil change intervals. Oil change intervals in Europe are now between 10k and 20k miles. However, Oil standards in Europe are higher than they are in the USA. Amsoil SAE 10w-30 Synthetic Motor Oil, Product Code ATM, meets ( and/or exceeds ) the European Standards.

Amsoil SAE 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil, Product Code ATM
... Provides for Extended Drain Intervals
Due to its superior synthetic composition and advanced performance additives, AMSOIL 10W-30 performs much longer than do conventional petroleum and other synthetic motor oils. No other major oil manufacturer matches AMSOIL's 25,000-mile or one-year drain interval recommendations.

I will post more later. I must get to work answering Emails.
Thank you for your order.

Message: I got 10k out of the 10-30 with summer driving and a little towing on weekends. The oil analysis was pristine. IMHO running the XL 7500 for 3k is way under kill, dino Pennsoil or Chevron(Havoline)Supreme can go to 5k easy. So should the blend. Running the 10-30 fully synthetic to 7500 miles should be more than fine.
Steven will probably post the riot act for oil changes, just my 02.
Whats the year, engine, mileage of your truck?

andys1960,
Maybe this will give you added comfort:
Redline issued a press release stating that some (but not Redline) synthetic oils ARE IN FACT capable of going 25k miles between changes. Too bad they did not mention Amsoil by name.
This is NOT a Redline vs. Amsoil post, just a post whereby Redline confirmed Amsoil's claims of Extended Drain.
--------------------------------------------------
I borrowed this from a well respected race engine builder --- an Amsoil customer of mine --- and a Dakota owner:
Although Red Line Oil is touted as a top-notch synthetic oil, oil analysis results show that, at least in passenger vehicle applications, it may not be formulated properly. Red Line oils are for TRUE racing applications. I know because i build race engines.
On passenger vehicles (cars and trucks)it has been determined thru testing that when using Red Line there is excessive wear metal content, low tbn value, excessive oxidation percentage and Molybdenum levels which are "over range". These results would seem to indicate that after a fairly short oil drain interval the Red Line Oil used was showing unacceptable levels of oil degradation, and the Polyolester base stock seems to be reacting negatively with the aluminum and lead materials in the engine.
In addition, the "over range" Molybdenum levels indicated that Red Line may be using a solid extreme pressure additive in its oils. Although this may be useful (but is not necessary with top-quality basestocks) in RACING applications where metal components of an engine may be more likely to come in contact with each other, it is not necessary in a passenger vehicle engine and can actually be harmful to the engine. This would make sense, otherwise there would be no reason to indicate the levels of Molybdenum to be "over range".
If I were you I would choose an oil that is formulated for regular motorist driving conditions(normal passenger vehicle applications). I use Amsoil.

Amsoil comments regarding Extended Drains (in my words):
Amsoil has been in the oil industry for 30 years. Due to Amsoil's superior synthetic composition and advanced performance additives, AMSOIL performs much longer than do conventional petroleum and other synthetic motor oils. No other major oil manufacturer matches AMSOIL's 25,000-mile or one-year drain interval recommendations (whichever comes FIRST, changing the filter every six months).
However, the 25,000 mile /1 year that is on the back of the bottle IS NOT an absolute! One must realize that is for non-severe service (highway miles where you have stable operating conditions) and that the indicated drain interval also has a time period of 1 year maximum as well.
Under a combination of city and highway circumstances, AMSOIL recommends up to 2 or 3 times longer, it means up to 2 or 3 times the equipment manufacturer's recommendation (If your owners manual states 3k miles , then you can change at 9k, and if your owners manual states 5k then 12-15k changes would be alright based on driving habits ... the harder you drive, the sooner the change). Proper filtration is also very important. AMSOIL SDF Oil Filters must be changed at least every 6 months regardless of miles driven.
Notice: Modifications to engine will change service intervals.
Notice: More frequent service may be required under severe service operating conditions.
Notice: For drain interval beyond 3x manufacturers recommendations (especially the 25k change) --- Regular oil analysis is recommended for establishing drain intervals.
AMSOIL --- 30 years of manufacturing oil and mountains of data and tests make these clains possible.
