Subject: 2002 Sebring LX major problem! IP: Logged
Message: ok, i put this in the off-topic section, but we need help tonight so i'm putting it here too - the dealer's service manager (top dude) wants to talk with my dad about this, and my dad wants to be prepared so he doesn't have to take the managers word for everything.
thanks for helping.
i cant find a chrysler sebring forum so maybe you guys can help me out.
sorry so long, but we need help on this one.
my dad took in our 2002 sebring lx sedan to the dealer for a noise in the engine. they've had it for 3 days, looking for the source. today they told him they removed the valve covers, and saw a bunch of gunky brown liquid-peanutbutter-like goop inside. however the oil dipstick has clean and normal looking oil. looks like the oil has not been circulating.
they also said they don't have any record of the car getting an oil change until 16k miles, and it has had 2 since then (now at 25k miles). we don't know how we could have "forgotten" to have the oil changed, but we're still looking for the records, maybe in the wrong file here.
still though, thats 3 oil changes/services at the dealer, with new oil filters i'm sure, and no apparant problems then (also they must not have noticed at the last one that not much oil drained out since its all gunked on the valves).
and the dipstick is clean oil.
so what has happened? what could the problem be? if we really did miss the first several oil changes, could this be the result after the last 3 oil changes?
thanks!
jeff

Message: What does the sound, sound like? If it is really due to a lack or oil change, it could be many things, like you main bearings or your rods being blown. You might want to take you filter and take a hack saw and cut it in half and see waht kind of metal is in it, if any. Might tell you what kind of break down you have.
Do any engine lights come on?
How does it act other than noise?
We need more info please.

Message: ok I actually own a sebring and work at a Chrysler dealership, and can most likely answer your questions....so im going to ask a question, is it the 2.7 V6 or the 2.4 4 cyl?
anyway your warrantee is not voided if there was a reason for the motor to give up,becides the oil problem.if it was sludge looking then it might be other problems.
if you have any other concerns feel free to email me at Dakotasport94@hotmail.com
