Subject: seat belt release difficult to release
IP: Logged

Message:
I like my recently purchased 2000 Dakota, and it seems to like me too... so much so that it prevents me from easily exiting the vehicle.

The driver's and passenger's seatbelts are very difficult to release. Press the button, the button depresses, but the seat belt does not release. Eventually, with a lot of fidgeting the buckle and repeated pressing and releasing of the button, the buckle is released.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to fix this annoyance?

What have you tried besides fidgeting with them? Spray a little silicone lubricant into the female half of the buckle. Silicone is clear (vs graphite which will stain clothes if it drips later) and will not react with any plastic parts inside like WD40 will. Otherwise, seatbelts and buckles are not serviceable items. They should be removed and replaced when they show signs of wear.

When it gets a little warmer outside, I will hit the buckle with some silicone. I was making sure this was not a common problem with a specific fix. Thanks.
