Subject: Need help w/ new tires for Dakota IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 2001 Dak Sport Quad Cab 4x4, and have been running the stock tires that came with it. They're size 265/70/16. I want to get a new set of tires, and am wondering if 265/75/16's will fit OK? Front wheel wells look like there may be some possibility of rubbing, but also maybe not. I want to stick with the original 16" rims for right now.
Anyone else have 265/75/16's? How about bigger? Any input is appreciated.

Message: I have a 2001 QuadCab 4X4 stock suspension. I just installed a set of Rancho RS5000 shocks and new tires.
The tires are BF Goodrich Land Terrain LT265/70R16. These tires are made by BFG for Wal-Mart and carry a 50,000 mile warrenty.
Being a Light Truck tire they are heavy side wall (3 ply) and the tread is similar to the BFG AT/KO without the knobby edge.
I have had them for about a month with about 3,000 miles travel on them.
On road they are very good wet or dry. Offroad they are excellent.
I have driven the fire roads in the San Bernardino mountians, the desert trails and washes of the Black mountians and the rocky trails of the Cerbats in Arizona and they have worked great.
They even performed well in the slush and snow around the Flagstaff area.
For a daily driver and having some offroad security these tires are a good deal.
I have had no clearance problems at all.
Hope this helps some of you if looking for a good tire and reasonable prices.

Message: I have 33x12.5x15 on a otherwise stock suspension dakota. I even have a winch and brushguard in the front which lowers it a bit. All I did was minor plastic trimming so I dont htink that going from a 265 70 ( 30.6 in tall)to a 265 75 ( 31.6 in tall) is gonan make a difference. Youre looking at a 1 inch overall height but when mounted youre only gonna go 1/2 inch out on either side. I dont forsee you having a problem. you may rub the frame rails on full turns and you may have to trim some of the plastic inner fender well.
but that shoudl be about it

Message: I just put 265\75\16 's on my quad.
I turned the tortions up 7 turns each side and had to trim the valence at corners.
It was very easy with a cut off bit.
I also had to trim my mud flaps.
I am happy with the size and would recomend it if you are willing to do some cutting.
If not the stick with the stock size and save the spedo headaches.

Your remarks are unwanted and fill this forum with trash.

I mis-typed on my orginal post. I am running LT265/75R16. Tires are 31.6 inches tall, about 1.2 inches taller then the stock 265/70R16.
They fit with no clearance problems at all.

I guess it was u morons fault for your typo?
I think that OR Dakota was inquiring about clearance issues. Your original reply indicated that you were using the same size as OR Dakota, which was not answering his question.
I actually thought that "u morons" provided more helpful info than your initial post and his point about bigger size should have been well taken. His choice of handles could have been a little more politically correct however.
For someone who is taking the "high road", I don't see accountability for your typo - like "I'm sorry" or "ooops, my bad"
BRING IT ON!!!!

No thanks! I've had 1 set of Schwab wild cat tires, they were the worst tires I've ever had. I caught 6 flat tires in as many months driving the same roads and conditions I had on other tires w/ the same veh. Basic city driving on each one. It seemed like I would run over some kid's bubble gum or cotton candy and the next thing I knew a tire was flat. For kicks I did check them for prices, and they were about $200 more for a set of tires than anybody else.

Message: Thanks for the replies, everyone! (morons and non-morons alike!) I'm gonna pick some up today, I'll let you know how it goes. There's a guy at work who runs 32" on his Dak no problems, so I'm thinking 265/75/16's should be OK. There's a lot of conflicting info out there, and I'm just hoping I don't end up at a place that refuses to sell me them, as I've heard has happened with others.
Will post results in a couple days.

Message: Put on the 265/75/16's, and they fill up the wheel well pretty well! Not much room there at all now. They fit though. Haven't felt any rubbing, but it's close. Should be a better fit in a month or so after the tread has worn down a bit.
