Subject: Let dealer mess with paint chip or no?

Just found battle scar #4 on my 04 Quad that IVe only had since 10/31 while applying wax the other day. It's a knick down to the primer right in the middle of the rear passenger side door, probably from the front passenger tire kicking up a rock on the ground. Great, if I had my mudguards put on 2 weeks sooner it might not have happend.
I know I sound anal but my 95 Ranger looked like crap when I traded it and I vowed ID never let a vehicle's paint deteriorate so badly again.

I dont want to mess with this myself as it's in way too visible of an area. I fixed everything else, as it was at the edges of panels where you can barely see.

Now Im looking at two options.
Option one: Asking the dealer to work on it when I go for my first oil change. Only thing is Ive seen big variations in the quality of dealer touch-up work, from practically invisible to stuff that looked like they just poured a glob of touch up paint from the bottle straight onto the chip and left it to dry as it was. I dont want anybody doing an ugly repair that will be more noticable than the nick itself.

Option 2: Dont worry about it for now since more chips and scrapes will come anyway after I fix this one. Just wait 6 months to a year then get a professional detailer or a good body shop to fix a whole batch of them.

Which would you all do?

You let the dealer do your oil changes?

NOt sure about the paint chip but I wouldn't let the dealer to the oil changes, but hey, that's just me.

For warranty's sake, just document the changes, work log, receipts, etc.

I love my Dak but with the rumblings of problems here and there with the warranty called into question, I too get my oil changed at the dealer. They made a mess last time (not huge but all the same) because they were lazy about the plastic cover. I inspect it when I pick it up every time and make them "get right" anything they may have messed up. But so long as DC loves to raise the "improperly maintained" flag, I'll have them change it so they have nothing they can say..

I used to paint cars, and let me tell ya, there is nothing you will get any better from the dealer that a paint shop won't do. If anything a shop would be better because they want your business, the dealer has a name and a stereotypical know how and stupid people think the dealer knows all... If you are in the sf bay area I can refer you to a few shops.

Yeah, I like to have the cheap stuff, the normal maintenance, done at the dealer. In the past it has benefited me to have it in the records that I regularly spend money there. My last dealership actually went to bat for me to cover a 300 dollar repair on a used truck over 10 thousand miles outside the manufacturer's warranty.

That's a pretty good deal, but paint can be really sticky... if you don't prep right... you are going to end with a much bigger problem. I'm already sketchy that dodge has had so many paint problems in the past, my truck being one of those problems... If you are really that anal about the truck then go to a paint shop... they will not be trying to cut costs as much as dodge will be... Good Luck
