Subject: Truck shakes and hesitates IP: Logged
Message: Hi, Great forums.
I don't know much about vehicles, but I know this. My boyfriend drives a V8 1999 4x4 Dodge Dakota Sport 43k miles. Anyways...It has been in the ditch once about a year ago, did lots of damage underneath, 3000 worth, anyways..it hasn't been the same since.
Last week Experienced some shaking...got checked, needed new tie rod end and some dry mud removed....
now 3 days later truck shakes violently and doesn't want to "get". Check Engine Light is on. The engine seems to hesitate. Put dry gas in to fix, the shaking is not as noticable.. but still shakes constantly. Also, when the vehicle is going over 50 mph the check engine light flashes..then stops when we slow down. Any idea what could be up? A friend said spark plugs..Not sure though.. Any help would be appreciated.

Message: If it "idles" ruff- the shaking might be caused by a sticking IAC sencor that is bolted to the back of the throttlebody. You have to unbolt the black round air hat to see the throttlebody. The sensor on the back of the the throttlebody is the idle speed controller. Another possiblity is a damaged oxygen sensor, it's located in the exhaust pipe with a wire connected to it. On newer models there in one befor and after the catalytic convertor.
If you have him turn the ignition key on and off and the third time leave it on the check engine light should flash several times pause the flash again. Count the number of flashes then pause and count the number of flashes again. The first set of flashes should be a "trouble code" the last set of flashes will be an ending code. Hope this helps.

Message: Your Check engine light flashes because the engine is missfiring and will damage the Cat. converter . if you did have bad fuel in it you will probably have to clean out the tank and the injectors to stop the missfire .

Message: On 1999 trucks there is no way to pull a code
without a reader.
IF your engine fault light flashes stop driving your truck or you will cause damage.
