Message: Overdrive is 'on' by default. Is there some way for me to short a circuit or fiddle with the PCM or something so that overdrive is 'off' by default and I have to press the button to turn it on?

Message: Wire a simple toggle switch into the overdrive wiring. You could even replace the OEM switch with this. With it turned off, the overdrive circuit cannot be energized.

Message: On one of these on-line auto parts dealer (can't remember which one, sorry), I saw such a kit. It somehow set the system so that on powerup, you were OUT of overdrive. It's been a few years, so they might have gone away.
I tow a lot and it is frustrating to hit that button every time you restart the truck.

Message: I live in a city unfortunately and it is hard to remember to push that button everytime I start up, especially since I'm having to expend so much neural energy watching out for the aggressive, lazy, stupid drivers around here. It's also just a pain. Overdrive should be a feature, not a standard. OTherwise it wouldn't really be "over"-drive.
You two fellows who made real suggestions, thanks. I'd rather not have to make any superficial changes to the interior. I'll look around for that kit to see if it still exists.
You other two cherry bombers can SUCK IT.

Message: Why can't over drive be standard? All overdrive means is a gear ratio of less than 1:1 or more simply the input to the tranny (engine) is spinning slower than the output (driveshaft). BTW, the need to turn it off for city driving is an old wives tale, no basis in actual need. You should turn it off if towing heavy loads to keep the tranny from overheating, though.

Message: I just don't understand why somebody has to pay to butcher their wiring when Dodge provided a switch that does exactly what your's does.
BTW the city I live in has 4,000,000 inhabitants, but they're not all on the road in front of my house. I think you're excuse is stupid and you're probably just a lazy azzed retard who can't drive remember your address at the same time.

Message: I found this reference right here...
http://dodgeram.org/tech/mods/transmission/OD_inverter.html
and this one on the net, but it was not what I remembered...
http://www.intermotive.net/od401.htm
As I said before, I swear I found one that was a plug in (and not too $$$). You set the toggle to on/off and the OD starts up in that mode. It is great for towing long distances.
I was looking for it for my 95' Dak but never got it (I was so lazy, I didn't even want to buy the switch to help me be lazy...).
