Message: I had a guy tell me today that a 1995 Dakota 2.5 is a GM motor and I was wondering if this was true?? I realize that some Jeeps used GM motors but I didnt think that they were used in the dodges.

Message: NO it is a Dodge engine and always has been . The jeeps used GM engines only when it was owned by AMC . When Chrysler bought Jeep They severed ties with GM.

Message: GM furnished AMC with the Pontiac Iron Duke 151CID 4 banger up to 1982. AMC then produced their own 2.5 that is totally different then any GM engine, Chrysler bought AMC in 1987 and has continued to build the same 2.5. That would make the 2.5 an AMC/Jeep engine, not a Dodge engine or Chrysler engine or DC engine.
My 89 4.2l YJ has a Delco alternator and a Ford distributor, that was built 2 years after the sale. In fact the original plug wires and some vacuum hoses had AMC printed on them.

Message: But the whole answer is that it is NOW a Dodge manufactured engine, not GM. Kinda like the way that Jag's are now Ford. Still Jaguars, but also Fords. But you look at your engine and you will see no AMC, and definitley no GM labels anywhere. You will see alot of MOPAR though. Especially with aftermarket, in which you would want to look for more Jeep categarized parts, not Dakota. You'll find more that way. You look up Dakota and you'll find just about everything for 5.2's and 5.9's but hardly any 2.5L.
Anyways... Just wanted to see if I could get this post to last any longer. I think the record for a 4cyl post is about 2 days. LOL
