Subject: Brake Problems IP: Logged
Message: I'll try to make this short.
Had bad brakes, forced to use Midas due to short time.
7 days later brakes start squealling agian.
They inform me of hard spots and quote another price, but no repair.
30 days later I return (they attempted to alievate the problem by removing the dust covers). They say they are going to try ceramic pads, no luck getting those. Suppose to get new pads and rotors turned this week.
My problem is A) they want to charge me for the rotors being turned even though the problem occured 7 days later (which I do not believe is due to hard braking, not that I believe I do hard brake) and B)today my ABS and brake lights came on.
My fear is that my ABS is bad and causing the hard spots to occur.
Is this a possible cause?
How much does it typically cost to get ABS checked and/or repaired?
I have a 1997 Dakota, reg cab.
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

Message: ABS Problem may be Rear Speed sensor , They are Known for that. as for the Brake squeel , Should have gone with factory pads even though it is higher in price , there is NO squeel .I would raise a little cain over wanting to charge you for Rotor turn .They usually dont have Top certified Techs doing the Brake work so you get what you pay for .Dealerships are the best place for brake work to be done in most cases .

Message: not to flame bamatech, but i kind of disagree - my local dealership hosed me on my first brakejob - expensive labor, expensive parts, crappy dusty squeeky results. world's most annoying and sometimes painful screeching i was told by the dealer is normal. i also got hosed by my local midas (had to go in a pinch) - telling me i need new parts when i don't. (of course, it was the dealer telling me i didn't need those parts yet, so who knows?)
recently went to my local Pep Boys. brake checks are FREE! woohoo! plus, they carry/install/warranty name brand brakes with several choices - dealer told me there were no hi-perf or super quiet or any variety of brakes for my truck, just the standard soon-to-be-squeeky set i ended up with. (drive through restaurants hate me)
but i suppose its all a matter of luck - getting a good dealership, etc.
