Subject: Heated Mirrors IP: Logged
Message: My heated mirrors are turning off after 10 minutes. The manual does not mention this feature.
Is this normal operation?
Thanks

Message: Yes, that's what they are supposed to do. Don't know why. Seems like I read that in the manual.

Message: What year is your truck??? I have a 2000 and i have had to replace my mirror twice. It does not shut off until i tell it too. This means your mirrors are on every time you turn your defrost on. be thankful it shuts off after 10 minutes.

Message: It is the standard operation to turn off after 10min, same for rear window defroster. Those are heating elements you're turning on. If there is nothing cold to melt or precipatation (fog) to disolve, they can burn out. Kinda like it's bad for a microwave to be run with nothing in it. Not really the same principle but I think you see what I mean..

Message: RaZ0R1 I just purchased new mirrors for my 2000 Dakota Quad cab, and the dealer sold me heated mirrors rather than non-heated. Anyway I saw your response to a heated mirror issue and about having a 2000 also. The parts guy couldn't say what activated the heat strip, are you saying just turning on the front windshield defroster knob is what turns them on? Thanks!

Message: It seems that since I've owned this truck the heated mirrors don't seem to work that great. Sometimes I wonder if they are actuated even though the button inside the cab is on when I push it. I noticed that on the mirrors that there are heated symbols to indicate that they have the heat feature. My question is, should that symbol on the mirror be light up or if the mirror is heating up?

No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that the little symbol on the mirror is just there so you know which button on the dash to push.
BTW, I've got them on my Dak. Only used them a couple of times, but them seem to work pretty well when the mirrors are all iced up.

Message: had heated mirrors on a 93 grand cherokee for first time and was sold on them. ordered them on wife's 99 grand cherokee and my 04 QC beats the hell out of scrapping ice off them on a sub 0 am.
Steve Ebert they turn on with the rear electric defroster not the front blower. i would guess if you have a rear slider you'll need to rig a new circuit/switch
