 Subject: sliding down driveway overnite

ok you guys, believe it or not, my 2002 Dakota Q has slid down the driveway twice this winter overnite here in Wisconsin. That is I park it at the top, and in the morning it is at the bottom. No one else has driven it and no one has broken into it. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have factory goodyear tires. Could that be the problem? I try to keep the drive shoveled, but sometimes it does ice up. Otherwise I love my Dakota Q! Thanks! Dee

I had that problem I have a steep driveway too and here in utah we get ice and lots of it just go to home depot get a container of Ice Melt there are some that come in a little plastic handy dandy container I put it behind the seat then when I park I get it and toss it behind the rear tire < on the down hill side > lol then if it slides it hits the salt and stops :) of course if you have a manuel tranny and leave it out of gear at night it could be a sign that your rear brake pads are shot and the e-brake is just not holding it :) hope that helps :)

Like Neo pointed out, your probably parking on an icy spot, my truck has done this too. Look for skid marks in the snow and make sure that your parking brake is properly working.

Where you park it pour some kitty litter, or salt around there and then at night put some wedge shaped blocks behind the tires. That should help out if it is sliding.

Just power brake where you want it to stay < press the brake and floor it ! it will warm up the tires and concrete although it also is alot of fun :) and after the burn out turn engine off set e brake and your set >:~>

I would do the kitty litter and wooden block for the rear tires. Either that or park at the bottom of the driveway.

OK , No bull---- now.
My driveway isn't that steep but I live in Ontario and ditched my Goodyear Wrangler RT's after only 18,000 km.
They were absolutely dangerous in the winter.Fishtailing everywhere, unable to get going from a stop w/o putting into 4wd etc.
It will cost more than kitty litter to change them but not as much as a fender-bender will.
My personal recommendation would be Michelin LTX M+S tires, but there are plenty of choices,most would be better than Goodyears. JMHO

mine did the same thing an cat litter the way to go nothing is wrong with the truck if thats what your thinking. but i would start to put the parking brake on too.

I had a 95 Chevy 1500 SWB with Goodyear AquaTreads that would do the same thing even when I locked the parking brake.
I think that some tire designs are the culprit with this type of problem and not the truck itself.

OK, I'm not bashing here, but the e-brake will do nothing!!!! If it is in park, the rear tires are locked in "park" the tires will not turn. I agree with the powerbrake thing. Put it in 2wd powerbrake for 10 seconds to dig through the snow, then put in 4wd and put in park. The back tires will be in ruts, and the transfercase will lock all 4 tires together, then the tranny will keep all 4 from turning. This way you dont need to buy kitty litter, or wooden blocks, or new tires.

This will sound stupid. I have a uncle that chains his to the ground. He drilled 5/8" hole in the concrete and put in wedge ancors with hooks. Don't worry my flame suit is on.
