Subject: check 4 wheel drive light IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 01' 4 door Dakota with all wheel drive and have a million questions. I'll start with this one. The "service 4WD" light came on the truck was actually locked up and would barly move. The drive switch was set to AWD but the light showed it was in 4Wheel HI. I turned off the truck and restarted and had no problems. I took it to the mechanic; he said it might be because my tires had uneven wear. Does this sound right?

Message: Just took it to our mechanic and was told the 4
wheel drive sensor is bad. Ours would have the
"service 4 wheel drive" light and the lights on the
box would flash. This only seemed to happen when it
was really cold out. After the truck warmed up and
was turned off, the service light would go off. It
is possible with the sensor being bad for it to be
stuck in 4 wheel drive, so that is really what we
are worried about.
