Message: They don't mention what engine.
Well, it can't be the new 4.7 luckily. They mentioned some of them being pre 2000's and also the fix to the INTAKE GASKET which of course doesn't seal any oil on our 4.7's.
It's still a bummer.

Message: Actually, they are talking about the 4.7.
But IMHO consumersaffairs.com is a garbage website and none of the information is truly authenticated and documented. I could make up BS like that in 20 minutes. Like this.
Bill of Columbus, Ohio
8-15 I bought a Ford Explorer. The very next day while towing a 50' semi trailer all the tires blew and our veehickle flipped killing my millionaire uncle.
I don't put much weight on that sites credibility.

Message: That story basically says that all of Dodge's engines blow up. One person listed his 5.2 with engine failure, while others with the 4.7 had it to, I didnt see a 5.9 specifically listed either. I don' really believe that all of the engines have that bad of a problem.

Message: At least one of those was about the 5.2L engine. And I have to wonder about the people that say "I'm SURE I had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube, I just can't find the receipts." If they really DID have the oil changed regularly somewhere, it would be a simple thing to go back to wherever it was done and get proof. Of course, the people that changed their own oil (or didn't, as the case may be) are S.O.L.
Rolo, after your Ford Exploder flipped, did you inherit your millionaire uncle's estate?

Message: This one cracks me up:
"In 1999 I bought a brand new Durango. Within a month or two the catch that keeps the glove compartment door shut broke in half. I thought, No big deal, this sort of stuff should be expected, so I took it back to the dealer, who replaced it at no charge. The mechanic then told me they had replaced a few others and were expecting a recall on it but I never heard anything else about it.
After it was fixed I noticed that it shut "stiff" feeling. It felt to me like it was going to break again. I studied the catch, carefully opening and shutting the glove box and have concluded that it is a poor design. Since then I have been reluctant to use it, handling it very delicately when I must go in there, expecting it to break each time, however it has not, probably because I hardly ever use it and when I do it's with kid gloves."

Message: "Shirley of Stockton CA (10/30/03):
4-99 I bought a new Dodge Durango. Had the car 2 1/2 years. At 32,000 miles my engine blew. I had previous problems with the oil pressure dropping. When I took the car in they said they needed to replace the intake manifold. It was replaced and still same problem. 6 months later while driving from one state to another for vacation, I hear my engine knocking. Next thing you know it's getting louder and louder".
If Shirley the stupit B!tch knew the avariation of normal engine operation and to always watch the pressure gauge. She wouldn't have to worry about taking it to the dealer for a new motor.
I've noticed that my runs in the high normal range. But I'm useing a higher weight so thats no cause of concern. Also I gess the automotive media never took noticed that the GM's powertrains would blow head gaskets, piston slap and not to mention the flawed 305 GM used in the trucks.

Message: Here's another one:
"I own a 1999 Dodge Durango. I learned the hard way that this vehicle does not have a neutral safety switch that the car should have to change its gears. The car was in the accessory poisition while the radio was on. My daughter was sitting in the front seat listening to the CD player with the drivers side door open. Also my 20-month-old son was in the car at the time too.
The car was not running (the motor was not on) and my son tripped over the console and grabbed on to shift lever and the car went into gear. I noticed that the car started to move down the driveway and I ran after the car but it was too late. The car hit the tree across the street and jumped the curb. I was only able to see my daughter fall out of the car and hear a loud crash that followed. I saw my daughter slide out underneath the car and as I held my breath running towards her to help her I could only wish that she and the baby were still alive. I found my daughter laying on the sidewalk with blood running down her face.
My 11-year-old daughter was taken down to the hospital by ambulance for abrasions and cuts to the face, possible broken foot and broken wrist. As for my son, we were lucky nothing happened to him. Lucky too that my other daughter and her friend were not behind the car either.
I almost lost two of my children, wrecked the car and have been an emotional mess for three days. I did a little check on other vehicles only to find out that some of the Dodge Dakotas have a neutral safety switch."
That's nice... leave your children unattended in the car and when they put it in gear and almost kill themselves, blame Dodge instead of yourself.

Message: Even if its true those people are morons. I changed my own oil since my truck was new. The dealer never even questioned it. I even told them I do my own oil changes. all they said was keep the receipts. as for the idiot who left his kids in the car, how about not leaving the keys in it and not leaving them unattended. freakin people piss me off. its always someone elses fault. never their own idiocy.
