Subject: rust prevention device - works? IP: Logged
Message: I live in the Chicago area and we get a lot of rust. I'm already starting to see a light dusting on some of the welds and the tow hitch. JC Whitney has a device that claims to prevent rust and corrosion on your vehicle:
http://www.jcw.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=10101&langId=-1&productId=222599&mediaCode=ZX&appId=384641
I'm not so gullible that I want to spend a hundred hard-earned bucks on some gimmick. Has anyone used this thing and found it to actually work?
I used to think Rain-X was a gimmick until a friend told me how well it worked. Now I use it on all my vehicles.

Message: Where I work(natural gas industry)some of our underground steel pipes are rectified(damn near killed him). They run a small electric current through them for corrosion protection. When we expose steel pipe for any reason we are suppose to cad weld a 17# magnesium anode on unless it`s rectified. I have seen them when we tie into them and they look new. I`ve also heard of cars having current from the battery run through them for corrosion control. You have to disconnect the battery if you put it in storage or it will kill the battery. Anyways this might not be an apples to apples comparison and this product could be a sham, but the theory isn`t.

Message: I did a web search for "auto rust anode" and found the RustStop website. Anybody use it? It looks like a better system.

Jer, thanks for explaining the physics. It gives me hope that a product like this could work, even if Electro-Shield is a useless piece of crap.
