Subject: gas filter? IP: Logged
Message: My 1995 V6 Dakota has starting acting oddly when it gets to about 1/2 tank of gas. I'll be driving, when suddenly the truck starts "running rough" for lack of a better term. It will do it for several second before adjusting back to normal. It doesn't do it when I have a full tank.
Thanks.

Message: sounds like the fuel pump. (actually the regulator or relief check valve but......) the pump, regulator, & check valve are a single assembly. its in the gas tank. the filter is there as well. i believe the only filter is in the tank.
get a fuel pressure gage, find the "schrader valve" on the fuel rail at the top rear of the engine. put the gage on and check it at idle. i believe the pressure should read ~48 PSI at idle. if someone on-line has access to a shop manual they can double check this for you.
if its REALLY the fuel pump you'll need to get it fixed before it quits completely. my collegue had a similar story. the problem started out at a 1/4 tank then at 1/2 tank. etc.... eventually it quit completely while driving on the highway. he lost steering and brakes when the engine stalled due to lack of fuel. (the vacuum resevoir only has enough vacuum for a single application of the brakes after the engine stalls)
