Message: I can drive the 318 in my Dak on 87 all day long. I recently visited my father who has a 5.9 Ram. I was doing a lot of highway driving and decided to drop down from his normal grade to 87 octane. The thing was pinging and ticking like you wouldn't believe! For the rest of my vacation I coughed up the extra money for the 89.

Message: I once heard that it was the oil pickup , but im not sure what it is, it did it on my 87 dak, and also on my 97, but it doesnt really bother me, if it doesnt affect anything, why pay money to fix it, in my case, i just turn the radio up a little more.

Message: Has anyone come up with a answer to this post. I looked thru the old posts but cannot seem to find the answer.
I have a ticking sound coming from the engine area, only when I'm pulling a load and/or stomp on it from a dead stop. I thought it might be the torque converter. It seemed to show up after I lifted the truck and put on 35" tires. Any ideas?????
