Message: The Dakota is, unfortunately, the closest thing DC makes to the Chargers of old.

Message: the viper is the closest thing to the muscle cars of old, since it is the only big block car left on the market, but dodge is remaking the challenger, according to one of their press releases. its gonna be awesome having a new retrostyled hemi challenger takin on the the new retrostyled mustangs, if only gm would bring back the camaro, then it would be just like the muscle car era all over again

Message: I was working on a project when that F&F Charger was pulled into the shop. I got a chance to look at it and from what I saw it has a 440 in it. The blower is fake. The gauges are fake. The nitrous is real. They used the nitrous to get up to those speeds in the segments of the movie. The car is a real pile, and it desperately needs a new paint job. The interior was touched up for the movie and I wasn't impressed. It was a riced out muscle car.

Message: No, the Viper, while awesome, is not anything like the Dakota/Charger layout. Having owned and worked on both a '69 Charger, and '89 Dakota, I can say with authority that the Dak and Charger are extremely close in overall layout. Take a look at the example I cited. 1969 Charger: 318 2V carb/3-speed Torqueflite/RWD, final drive ratio 2.76
1989 Dodge Dakota Shelby: 318 2V TBI/4-speed Loadflite automatic, final drive 2.69. Do you see the parallels? 20 years separating them, but they're front-engine, RWD, both over 3600 lbs with the aerodynamics of a streamlined brick.....neither are like a Viper, though the first Viper used modified Dakota front suspension pieces.
