Message: Anyone see Blade 2 yet? The same car is in it as in the first movie. There is this scene where he almost slides into it on a motorcycle...stops just before he hits it...and then helooks it over and gives it a couple "air kisses"...funny as hell.

Message: Well personally I think you guys suck. There is no way in hell that the supra with nos would keep up with that Dodge Charger with a blower in the F&F. I do have to admit that the Rx7 that Dom drove was beautiful. You guys really need to study your cars, I mean man it was pathetic reading all of those messages you wrote.

Message: LOL! I can't believe people could get so worked up over such a 3rd rate movie! As for the difference in $$ spent modding a Supra vs a muscle car - that is definitely a moot point IMO. Muscle cars are legendary classic pieces of history, I'd love to have the dollars to pour into one. If you just want to get from A to B real fast - heck, there are freaking snowmobiles up here at the drag tracks that do 9 sec. in the quarter mile.

Message: I'm curious, why do you think a 390 powered mustang would have trouble keeping up with a charger R/T 440?
The mustang is much lighter, giving it a much better power/weight ratio.

Message: The Mustang has 325 HP, if you believe Ford. It also weighs about 3500 lbs, as the Ford "FE" series big block is a boat anchor, weighing over 750 lbs by itself (the intake manifold alone weighs 110 lbs!).
The Charger has a CONSERVATIVE 375 HP, much more torque, and its engine won't weld itself together at 5500 RPM, as the non-side oiler in the Mustnag would have. The Charger weighs just shy of 3900 lbs.
The power to weight advantage goes to the Charger.
The Charger also was purposely 'crippled' with smaller then stock rims and tires, as in stock form, it was running away and hiding from the Mustang.
Check out the following link. Better yet, do a search on the net, and check out all the info.

Message: The Charger's power-to-weight ratio is about 375 hp pulling 3500 lbs. The Mustang was using 325 hp to pull 3250 lbs. That's about dead even. On paper. Actually the Charger is slightly ahead on paper.
BUT
All the articles that have been written by the people involved with coordinating the original Bullitt chase all say that the Charger rang rings around the Mustang. They were trying to handicap the Charger by shaving the tires and loading it up with weight and all this other stuff, and it just kept stomping the Mustang. Oh well. It's just a movie....
Here read 'em & weep.

That's good to know. My 69 Skylark with a 370hp/510tq 455 in it certainly has no trouble getting around.

Message: A Skylark GS was quite the sleeper in its day!
I've owned, at one time or another:
A '68 Chevelle SS396/350 HP, 4 sp (back in 1976)
A '69 Mustang GT ragtop with a 351/290, auto (back in 1976)
A '69 Charger R/T 440/375 HP, 4 sp (1977-1978)
A '69 AMC AMX two seater, 390/315 HP, 4 sp (1978)
Two '70 AMC AMX two seaters. 390/325 HP, both 4 sp (one in 1978-1980 and one that I've owned for the last four years)
So, I've had quite a bit of experience owning (and wrenching on) classic muscle cars.

Message: I had a 69 GS California with a 350 back in high school and I always wanted a 69 big block Buick. This one already had the 455 in it when I picked it up. The motor is out of a 70 Riviera GS, and makes a silly amount of power stock. I'm hoping to tear the whole car down over the next year or so and do a nice clean street buildup. With just a few mods and a little porting, I should see in the area of 450 hp.
Here's my high school ride back in 80.

Message: Nice ride! The GSs where also quite nimble, as Buick did more work in the ride & handling department, then any other GM division, with the possible exception of Oldsmobile.
The only prob with the Buick engines, and one that a good machine shop can easily rectify, is oiling. You have to open up some of the oil passeges, and place restrictors in others, to ensure that they stay together above 5,000 RPM.
But, with the boat-load of torque they have down low, who needs to spin them that high!

Message: That was even more BullSh*t, courtesy of that crappy movie. It was a rachet shifter, which is used to shift an automatic transmission. You pull it BACKWARDS to shift gears, at which point some shifters have springs that return the handle to the original position. That close-up scene that showed Vin Diesel shifting FORWARD was pretty much stupid because they were showing him shift into Park. Hello? Whatever.
What a stupid movie.

Message: Alex,It was a rachet shifter but it was full rachet because full rachet shifters stay in the same position while shifting and the rachet shifter moves places when shifting to a higher gear...also full rachet shifters have a reverse lockout so you cant shove it to far forward and accidentaly hit it,so how could you hit park while racing?exactly you cant hit reverse or park.LOL your funney though, backwards for shifting to a lower gear and forwards is not for hiting park its for shifter to a higher gear, hitting park...lol...thats funny stuff.Oh yea and the charger also had a manual shift automatic tranny

But since the rest of the movie was such crap (why did the floorpan of that one guys car come unbolted??) I just laughed off the scene as more Hollywood bullsh*t.
The ONLY (one & only) realistic part of that movie was when they were gathered in that huge crowd and they heard sirens in the distance and everyone hauled ass out of the parking lot..... THAT was realistic. The rest was bullsh*t. Period.

.alex.,
This may be one of the only times I may not agree....
I used to drive a car, yadda, yadda, yadda, that had a B & M Quick Click Shifter.
In racing mode, you slammed it forward to hit the next gear. This was a three speed autopmatic.
Now, I don't remember, but if it was a manual, then.....................

Message: Well, when you have a fully manual valve-body in your automatic, you can have the shifter set up forwards or backwards, and shift however you want.
All I'm saying is, go back & watch the movie. I'm pretty sure the bald-headed dork (remember how he lives his life 1/4 mile at a time?) pretty much put the car in park.
But that's okay. It fits right in with how he popped a wheelie AND smoked the tires simultaneously. All while driving 1-handed and looking out the driver's window at the dude next to him.....
All a bunch of Hollywood sh*t.
