Subject: California Smog 2 Passed, list of Mods IP: Logged
Message: Hey,
This message goes out to all California Dakota owners who might be sweating the dreaded California smog (2) test. I own a 99 CC R/T V8 5.9L which passed the SoCal smog 2 test with:
Mopar PCM
MSD 6-AL, Blaster SS Coil, 8.5mm wires /Splitfire plugs
Mopar M1 intake w/ large turtle
Fastman 52mm throttle body
K&N intake
IAT relocated in K&N
APS underdrive pulley
Mopar headers
APS 2400 stall converter --------- (May be an issue)
Full APS Transgo shift kit-------- (May be an issue)
Magnaflow high flow cat
Magnaflow dual exhaust
Anyway, with these mods the truck passed fairly comfortably within the limits. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND, all CARB stickers be visible under the hood, be present with smog tech during visual portion of test and most important know when and when not to explain your trucks modifications (i.e. never mention any type of transmission or gearing alterations!)
Hope this takes some of your anxiety away just be smart, every truck and every test center is different. If you feel as though you might still fail have a presmog test performed.
Although with these mods it can be done!

Message: The M1 does not have a carb sticker, so did the tech not notice the different intake manifold?
Do the Mopar headers come with a carb number?

Message: The mopar headers have a CARB #. The M1 does not, although to the unsuspecting eye it can pass for a stock unit. The funny thing is they had no problem with the M1, but the Mopar headers where a problem until I pointed out the CARB sticker. Lucky maybe.

Message: Thanks for the info! The header information is crucial because the headers I'm interested in do not come with Carb numbers. So, I might get some used headers from any brand and remove the Carb number and transfer it over.

Message: jumperman18,
Do the Mopar Headers' y-pipe also come with a carb number? Thanks for the info!

Message: The whole setup comes CARB approved from Mopar, or so Im told. But I think that's correct, the headers, crossover, and Y-pipe all have CARB #s.
