Subject: Error Code 1494-Can you shed some light?

Hey all.

I've got a problem with my truck, error code 1494. I looked it up on this site and it represents a problem with the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) pressure switch - electrical or the pump itself.

That is all I know about the problem. If someone could tell me in clearer words what this means and, more importantly, what it entails, I would greatly appreciate it.

2002 V6 CC SLT+ Auto 18,000 mi.
I have added a K&N and a Dynomax muffler.

Thanks again and happy holidays.

Yeah, I hope it's something as simple as that. I checked that and fooled around with it but it seems as though that is not the culprit unless it has a broken seal or something. I tightened it, still threw the code, took it off and put it back on, still there, started the engine, still there. Perhaps it takes a few minutes to register but if not then it must be something else.

Thanks again.

it will take a least 3 engine cycles to reset the code and clear the MIL

Doesn't have a darn thing to do with your gas cap being loose, or any other type of evaporative emissions system leak.

1494 "leak detection pump switch or mechanical fault" is the exact description, as given by the service manual and the DRB III.

First thing I'd do is give the vacum line running from the engine to the LDP pump a long hard look (the pump is hiding in the LF fenderwell next to the battery, kinda tough to get to / see, but it's down there.

If the vacum supply to the pump checks out, then it's down to either a wiring problem, or a faulty pump.

My money's on a vacum supply problem though.

Well I can't find any cracked or disconnected hoses so I'm gonna have to take it in to the dealer under warranty. The gas cap is in fine working order, too. Thanks all for your help.
