Subject: axle-shaft swap IP: Logged
Message: ok guys ive got a problem my 8 1/4 posi rearend went out and ive got the parts to fix it but not the tools...as in the hydraulic press to press the bearings on....anyways im just going to replace the whole rearend for now but im having a hard time finding a 4x4 rearend...ive been told that 2 wheel drive rear axles and 4x4 rear axles are diffrent because of the lug pattern....so im just wondering if i can get take the 6 lug axle shafts out of my rear end and put them into a 2wd rearend when i find one...or is there a problem with doing that.....any useful info is appreciated thanks
by the way i have a 93 dak 4x4 5.2 auto...if that helps

Message: You can take the axles out of any 91-96 8 1/4 rear end, 2wd or 4wd, and swap them back and forth. They're all the same. Good luck!

Message: And the later Daks, 97 and up, have the same bolt pattern but a different spline count on the axles.
