Subject: Cat back exhaust...HELP IP: Logged
Message: I just put on a gibson cat back exhaust system on my 4.7L. Now I am having a problem when I rev up the motor at about 4000 RPM it starts to idle up and down a difference of 500 RPM or so and it wont rev any higher. Now I suspect that it is not getting enough back pressure anymore because the exhaust is opened up to a three inch exit. If that is the case will the comp re-learn the way it now operates? The other ? is this is custom exhaust from Gibson why would they build the exhaust and sell it if it caused the vehicle to not run properly? Did they build it to the wrong specs? If you have any knowledge or previous experience with this problem any help would be appreciated.

Message: Give your computer a chance to get used to the difference, but also make sure the O2 sensor is tight and connected properly.
I didn't notice any problems when I had a 3" installed on my '00 5.9 QC, and don't think there is a systemic problem, just an electronic-education deficiency.

Message: Have you done anything on the air intake side? Even a K&N drop-in would compliment the gain from the free-flow exhaust. I agree on checking the O2 sensors.
