Very carefully!, When the 5.9 disappears from the Dodge lineup you will see the hp #'s of the 4.7 increase. Dodge really has no incentive to increase numbers very much, they have no competition in the mid size V-8 market. They could have only 200 hp and still say they have the most hp in a mid size V-8 truck.
The Dakota takes a back seat to the Ram in DC's eyes, unless they start putting the hemi in it. ( which I doubt they will )

It is basically the same engine that is in the Mustang Cobras. It's DOHC, 32 valve, etc., so it breathes very well.

Mark, I have to ask. What do you have for REAL mods on your truck to take a 300 HP Mustang?
Stock for stock a Dak with a 5.2 shouldn't win over a GT Mustang but a 300HP Mustang?
Do you have BOOST or what?
And did he know how to drive? LOL.
I am just curious that's all. I had an estimated 300 or so HP in my home built 302 I had in my FOX body. It was Carberated (Holley Dbl Pumper), big (loping) cam, (single plane) intake, headers, etc very radical and would whoop a stock Mustang GT or a stock Dakota of any sort.
I would think a real 300 HP 4.6 would do a pretty good ass whooping itself but never drove one. Mine revved to 7K RPM's tho. I'm sure the 4.6 doesn't (stock).

The Hemi in the new Durango can only manage to run 17+ sec. 1/4 mile times , so don`t get too excited about the Dakota having one.
I don`t now what they did to eat up the supposed extra 100hp , it can`t weigh that much more!

300 from the DOHC 4.6 is not too difficult. I used to work at an engine shop, we built engines for showroom stock racing. with a little head work, new cams, and computer work, we would get just over 400 hp and never reved over 6k. I think the problem with the fords is that they usually dont have a lot of torque and the driveling soaks up alot of power. The Lightining has around 400 hp and 450 ft/lbs, but can only manage 14's. I think the trans soak up a ton of power. Just my thought. The maurader has the same engine as the Lincoln Aviator..its an SUV engine, not a sports car.

The maurader is a grand marquis on steroids. It weighs a lot more than my 3400lb dakota. I did race a new mustang gt and lost by a good 1/2 second at 105mph. Most of my mods are listed on my profile. I havent done anything major yet, maybe this spring. I am hesitant because I dont want to lose winter drivability. I live in NJ where we get some snow now and then. I also dont have room to comfortably keep a second car.
