Subject: Alignment under Warranty?

I was just wondering if alignment is under warranty. I need to get my truck aligned and I don't want to spend $80 if I don't have to.

Thanks. I didn't think so but it was worth a shot. I'd rather hear it from someone here than talking to the dealer.

At least by me in St. Louis, the Firestone Tire and Auto centers offer a Lifetime Alignment for $150...yeah its kinda high but you can take it in and get it aligned whenever and however often you like. If you get 2 $80 alignments youve already spent more, and its good at all Firestones across the US.

Well I wish that changed things for me but I have 18,000 miles and 18 months. Oh well. It's good to know the right information though. Thanks.

firereddak,

I've been told by some shop techs, that the real low cost alignments, only get ther toe-in reset, not cast/camber.

The new machines are very high tech, and align in relation to the rear wheels also.

I'm sure you've seen vehicles going down the road, and the tires are not tracking the same line.

If you can get a complete alignment for $25, more power to ya

TexasTodd, yeh thats complete alignment, its an independent shop and folks from at least 4 counties that I know of go there, hell I even seen new car dealers take cars there, and they quaruntee the work if not happy they will redo it for you.

Most shops hire kids at min. wage and they dont give a crap about the quality.

Ive been going to this shop for over 20 years and the same guys still work there ,and bussiness only getting better because of quality work.

Some times it pays to live in little ol hick North Carolina, HAHA

Oh I forgot other shops around here charge like 40 to 60 dollars but for the most part when ive had alighnments done by them it wasnt a good job.

I worked with a guy that had a alignment done at one of the higher priced shops and two days later he totaled his truck, why? the "TECH" didnt tighten the bolts up on the ball joints and one wheel took off in the other direction.

Any way take it easy.

I guess I'm lucky because the shop I use only charges for whatever they have to change. For example, if the toe is off but the camber and caster are within spec, my guy charges only for correcting the toe in.

Last time I had the alignment corrected, It was $45.00 for toe and caster.

BTW...I don't believe it's possible to alter any alignment settings on the rear of our trucks so any "4 wheel alignments" are just about impossible.

Keep "TOE: in spec
Keep "CAMBER" in spec
but I've looked into this..
Raise the "CAMBER"
keep a high positive "CAMBER"
better control
(for those that do'nt know the angles...
TOE= the forward drive of the wheels..
I.E- Toe out..wheels point out.(inside wear)
Toe in=front of wheels in.(outside wear)
Ok.CAMBER
Pos Camber= Top of tire pulled away from body=(sever outside wear)
Neg CAMBER= top of tire pushed in..(inside tire wear)
CASTER.....
OK.
draw a line from bottom ball joint to top ball joint.
thats camber
top BJ.More torward the rear =pos CAMBER
.....
As far as the DAK's

I've seen a 6.0 pos cam,ber being good..

Just remember...
Tire wear...
TOE= Will WEAR
CAMBER=WILL WEAR
CASTER=WILL NOT
