Subject: Wipers Streaking IP: Logged
Message: I have tried numerous types of blades/wipers on my Dakota and still have terrible streaking. I now have teflon blades and not only do they continue to streak but they also chatter unless its a down pour. Any solutions?

Message: I had the same problem on my new truck. I believe it was contaminants depositied on the glass during production. I used a glass polish from Griots (spelling?) Garage and it cleared the problem up for me. They have two types, a heavy duty and a mild. I used the heavy duty (less elbow grease required). The crap is expensive, but it worked. It is a liquid and you apply it with a terrycloth pad. There is a corvette site that sells something similar at less cost, but I can't remember the name of the site.
You can try a mild paste compound on a small corner of the glass to see if that will work. I had to do that on my wife's ford escape glass sunroof due to real bad environmental damage and it helped. (The Griots glass polish was not 'mean' enough). You have to be careful using the compound because it might be too abrasive; so test a small, inconspicuous place first.
Good luck!

Message: When water on the highway is sprayed up onto your windshield by other vehicles it has oils and all kinds of crap in it off the pavement.
Try this it wont hurt anything and if it dosent work for you you wont be out but maybe 60 cents.
Get a regular coke ( the soft drink ) and from the top of the windshield pour it over the windsheild all the way across , just let it run down the windshield, then turn on wipers and wipe it off.
then just get a water hose and hose the coke off the truck.
The acid in the coke will clean the oils off the windshield.
I did this to my truck in pennsylvania at the rest stop on my way to canada and a man asked me what I was doing and i told him and he said he was going to try it.
it was lightly raining and he couldnt see anything out the window.

Message: PS,
if you have an advance auto parts in your area they carry the trico exact fit blades, that is what i use and i have had the best results from them.
have tried bosch and areovantage and many others, and these are the best to me and they cost around 4- 5 bucks each.

Message: Have replaced my wipers 2X per year until i found this one from PIAA. It is siliconized and if you demand the best, this is it. I paid + - $50,00 for it, but, am very satisfied with it. I`m shore you can get it for less. Also got 9007 extreme white bulbs for head lights on way. Good luck.

Message: Best thing you can do is get your window super clean and then put a coat of rainX on it. Doesn't give stuff a chance to stick. For the first week or so after applying it, i don't really use my wipers at highwat speed.

Message: Rain-X washer fluid (orange color), sold in one gallon containers at Wal-Mart and some parts stores, often reduces wiper blade "chattering".

Message: the best thing i have found is good old fashioned vineger. wipe down the glass AND the wiper blades to make sure all oil and grease get removed. for really stubborn stuff, i'll use some rubbing alcohol first on the glass, then use vineger.

Message: Yeah, the vinegar can help soften the rubber. As far as dumping coke on your truck goes, would you purposely dump salt on your truck ? Do you know how corrosive sugar is ? Good luck.....
