Message: well, im going to do one, despite the lack of info. if anyone here can help me as to which way to go, please let me know. im sure ill have to swap rads, build a driveshaft, do i little fabbing with a shift linkage (5-speed truck, need auto column, rods) its a 400 hp 70 440 with a built 727 behind it,, i will be running hp manifolds, an edelbrock performer rpm intake
, and a holley 870 dual feed. it all worked pretty damn good in the 1971 fury i had. i can only imagine those worlds of torque behind the wheel of a dakota????? its gonna be sick. please help me, i need to do this within the next few weeks as im selling my daily driver. tips? suggestions? have you seen any other than the green club cab? please let me know nealhollie@bellsouth.net

Message: i would stay away from the column shift and get like a B&M ratchet shifter on the floor... would help to cover that hole from you five speed.

Message: thanks for the tip. as i already have on of those damn ratchety mr gasket thingies from an old project. not my favorite, but fits well with my theme. after $300 on the truck, $400 at schumacher (oil pan, mounts) and the $0 ill have in the 440 (already had it), this is going to be a cheap performer. how much does a 1987 reg cab 2wd short box dakota weigh? oughtta be fun. massive traction loss and the giggly good times that come with it is what im looking for

Message: here's a pic of his truck.. i dont know the guy but it's his son's truck and he built the motor and all the fabrication work for it..
here's his crossmember where you can see the mounts he built. Not the prettiest but does the job
on the gen1 or 2, if you dont get the custom oil pan (or make one) this is what you have to do to the crossmember (gen3's already come from the factory with it notched)
here's one of his headers.. he bought summit racing big block headers and cut them apart and rewelded until they fit... its what i am gonna do when i get to that part

Message: I once had to install a 440 with 727 tranny into a early/mid 1960's Dodge truck. It had an OLD 318 in it. Not the 318 they used from the late 60's to recently, but an old wide block style or something. the engine was old and I didn't pay too much attention to it. But it was fun as hell (NOT) to get this engine and tranny to fit!
I had to go to the auto parts store and look thru boxes of motor mounts I found useful and then had to fabricate and weld in new mounts for them. Then I had to find exhaust manifolds to fit (he didn't want headers) and getting clearance from that old school steering gear box was almost impossible!
To top it all off he had this auto trans gear selector on his dash. The same kind with a cable you would find in old motor homes!
It took a few days to do this and I was working in a shop at the time, not in my own garage. But I did do it all by myself and this was about 10 years ago.
Anyway. Not to scare anyone, but rather say if it can be done in that old hillbilly early 60's truck, it can be done in a Dak!
