Subject: 2 newer tires, front or rear? IP: Logged
Message: I got 2 new tires and need to know...
Should they be on the front for steering or rear for traction?? It is a 4X4 and I live in Michigan.

Message: depends on the condition of your old tires and what your wanting to do, whether you want to keep from sliding into a mountain on ice or if you want to hookup hard-core on the track

Message: For safety's sake, go with the front with new tires. Under braking, load goes to the front wheels, plus better steering for cornering and evasive manuevers. Also consider that Dakotas have rear wheel anti-lock, which is more likely to handle the braking difference in new and old tread.

Message: I always put my new ones up front and move the old ones to the back if there still in good condition.

Message: If you really need 4 tires, you should find a way to get 2 more. No matter how broke you are, tires are cheaper than collision damage. While there is merit to the above posts, its also true in racing that a push is easier to control than a loose condition. Fortunately gen 3 Daks respond better than many vehicles to a loose condition, but I don't know which gen you have or how the others behave.

Message: Thanks for all the inputs... The front end (ball joints) went bad, thereby ruining the inside of the tread on the tires. I have the new tires already on the front. The tires in the back are not bad by any means, they have about half the tread of the new tires.
I think I will leave things as they are...

Message: i had my upper control arm bushings go out, and between rotations the tires were destroyed on the inside edge due to bad camber. didn't feel anything or see anything wrong till i went to get my next rotation.
