Subject: Replace oem fogs w/ driving lights? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2003 Dak w/ the oem sh!tty fog lights. I've searched a bit but have come up with conflicting results. What is a popular swap to take the fogs out and replace w/ a driving light? What about the wiring? I'd like to use the oem wiring/switch. I've read a few places that this can't be done due to the type of circuit, others say it's fine. I'd like to get something that is a pretty straight forward install (ie no taking the bumper/supports off and modifying). Pilot? PIAA? What?

Message: One more thing... Since I have the OEM lights - if I buy the Pilot lights, will they mount up to the OEM brackets & wiring?

Message: It won't be all plug and play because the Pilots use H3 bulbs and the stockers use a 2 prong (T5 I think it's called) connector. I added the stock fog light kit to my truck but now I think that was just a waste of money. If I had it to do over I would have gone with Pilot's because the bulb selection for H3's is huge.
My SLT came wired for the fogs and I ended up buying a new headlight switch with the integrated fog light switch. Look under your hood for vacant connectors. If you have an SLT it's almost a sure thing that's it's factory wired and you just need lights and a switch to make them work.

Message: Yeah - like I said - I already have factory fogs, I just want to replace them with some Pilots or something. But, I want to know if the pilot PL-119C kit is a true driving light beam or if it's just a clear fog. Also, how will they fit in the factory locations? Will they mount to the oem brackets? I'm not concerned about the wiring - I'll wire them up and solder them properly.
Will the OEM wiring hold up to a 55w light or so?
