Subject: Fuel gauge problems
IP: Logged

Message:
I noticed when after I put in 10 gallons it dosn't go all they way to the half way mark. And sometimes it appears that I got more or less fuel after I park it.

Now of course the fuel does shift but it doesn't reset itself.

Any one with this problem?

on mine the gas guage would show full after fill up and once in a while it would drop to empty.
sometimes it would stay at the 1/2 mark forever.
it stopped doing it for a while now but its not reading right cause after filling up and resettign the trip meter after 80 miles or so it woudl be down to 1/2 tank and stay there for the longest time. Ill probably have to replace the sending unit after the ball joints

Good to finaly get a reply.

Say you got a 454 Rob?? SS truck?

Well, I've recently put($20.00) 12.7 gallons in my truck after a 64 mile trip. And put in some lucos treatment after I almost filled the tank. Before refueling the gauge was pointing to empty (last fuel up was 6 GAL) and I know that I had more fuel in my tank. After the I refuel I found out that I had amost 3 gallons in the tank.

My truck will be going back to the its doctor to see what the problem is. The last time it took a trip to the shop, the Pitman arm and Tierod was replaced.

I had the same problem. It's the fuel sending unit that is attached to the fuel pump. It's only a $40 part, but you have to drop the fuel tank to change it.

Where can you get the sending unit separate from the pump? I've been looking around for years to find one for my '95 but never found a thing.

Thanks
Geoff

I have the same prob, it has to do with the design of the gauge. They make it to show you have less gas then actual, to try to eliminate the chances of people running out of gas. If it shows you have less than actual, for some reason it shows you have more than actual when you fill up. I haven't quite figured out how that is, but I just learned to live with it. Good luck.
