I'm seriously considering buying a nice '00 SLT CC 4.7L 4x4. The vehicle only says ~11,300 miles - apart from a CarFax, is there a decent way to verify this? How easy is it for an unscrupulous dealer (or prior owner) to roll the odometer back on one of these?
I don't know this dealer or his rep at all.

its impossible to roll miles back on a car with a computer. They can be rolled back from where u see it at (the odometer) but the car keeps the mileage in a few other places too. If u buy the car, u could go to another dodge dealer and have them check. If the milage has been turned back on the odometer, then u can sue the business you bought it from and put them out of business :)

the odometer info is stored the the computer and in the dash computer...... a dealer could switch out both of them to change the readign .... but it would cost way too much ... go to a dodge dealer... have them look up the vin and see what how many miles it had when it was last in ....

it is not very hard to do contrary to what some would want you to believe. Any Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep dealer has all the equipement to do it in less then 5 minutes for the PCM and the under dash chip cost to a dealer is very low, low enough to make it economicaly feasable to roll back the milage. Some trucks never see the inside of a dealers garage once they are purchased so checking the VIN might proove fruiteless.

True enough on the dealer visits, they don't see mine. But then the underdash would read 0 miles and not match the PCM and again they could be caught.

thats exactly what i am saying, u can change the odometer but u cant change the mileage on the comp.

I ran a CarFax on it and, like Kowalski mentioned, the prior owner never took it in to a dealer. In fact, there's nothing at all on it, except when it was bought and when/where it was registered.
