Subject: Austin Gear shops? IP: Logged
Message: I may have asked this before - if so forgive me! But does anyone know of a good - reasonable priced gear shop here in Austin TX. So far I haven't found a shop that will quote me less than $350-$400. I'm thinking it should be around $250 if I provide everything.
Any help?

Message: 4 wheel parts does the lift time warranty I think. Or you could try Austin Drive Train which does a 6 month warranty.

Message: I called Austin Drive Train - it was like $600'ish if I brought my own Gears and Diff. $790 something if they supplied everything! - Sounded like a rip to me.
I haven't checked 4wheelparts. I've bought from them before,,the products were cheap,,but seemed like last time I checked the were pretty outrageous on price too.
Need to find a nice low-key, but reputable shop,,I'm thinking $200'ish should be about right for labor if you supply everything.
I'm also looking to get 4.10's and a lsd. If you come across something let me know,,,Maybe we can get a deal for doing two at once!...?

Message: try Joe White Performance Auto @442-8423 located near Ben White and Manchaca. A number of years back I brought them gears to redo my Ranger and they did the rear for $250 labor.
Talk about a performance gain going from a 3.08 to a 3.73 and only lost about 1.5 mpg.
