Subject: Gear Shift Knob IP: Logged
Message: This may sound basic but I just purchased a 1998 Dodge Dakota w/ 5speed. The gear shift knob is upside down. Is it screwwed on? I tried to unscrew it to no advail? Can anyone help?

No seriously, it's standard thread, turn it to the left, grip it with something, I think there may be a locknut on the bottom.
I'm too lazy to go in my garage and look.

Message: The top of the shifter knob has a plastic cap with the shift pattern on it. Pry it off with a small screwdriver. Remove the lock nut under the cap and the knob will scew off easily.

Message: Be carfeul putting it back on, it can be a real bitch. Use some kind of lubricant of you can, like soapy water or somthing better as long as it comes off good. But yeah... DON'T try to just put like a vice-grip on there and turn it. It wont go anywhere. The way it's held on is through a nut under the plastic cap. Just like Merlin said.
