Subject: Aftermarket tow hitch?
IP: Logged

Message:
(cross post, sorry admins)
I'm looking at an '00 V8 4x4 CC right now - appears to be perfect (only 11,000 miles) EXCEPT it doesn't have a tow receiver. Evidently it has a tranny cooler, but no hitch.

Is that unusual? Is there any exposure by adding an after-market receiver?

We tow 2-3K lbs 2-3 times a year - long distances and nasty roads.

Thanks for the advise.

I'd recommend a receiver sytle hitch, at least a Class 3, but you probably already knew that. As you stated, for an auto, the tranny cooler is just about a must for any real towing chores.

I had a 98 4X4 with the 318 (5.2). It didn't have
a hitch or tranny extra cooler. Wal-Mart does/did
carry Reese hitches that will fit perfect. As
far as a extra tranny cooler, I got mine at
Auto Zone. You do have to be a bit of a engineer
to install one. You more than likely will have
to fab a way to hang it in front of your rad.
Install a class (5) hitch and have it over with
also... Heavy duty is always better plus it's
ready to pull large loads.

My 01 QC had the tranny cooler - a must regardless if you tow or not!
I bought a "Hidden Hitch" and installed it myself - very easy and no problems yet. When I ordered it I also ordered the plug in wire harness - inline - Unplug your tail lights and plug everything into the harness - no cutting wires or messing anything up!!!! I did make the mistake of buying a 2inch drop ball hitch - needed it lower (I have a 4x4 and it sits higher than the 2wheel drives)
Tow trailer over laoded with mulch, boat, bike trailer, huge ass UHaul trailer, camper, camper with the motorbike in the bed!
Do a search for hidden hitch and look around for prices.

Good luck
Julian

I have a 2003. I bought it with a tranny cooler and no towing hitch. Don't ask me why they sell them this way (without the hitch that is).
