Subject: Fan clutch? IP: Logged
Message: Awhile back, I came here with a problem about my truck making a loud noise and some loss of power that some of you suggested may be the catalytic converter. I forgot to mention the problem only occurs after I am sitting at a traffic light in hot weather(around 90F). then when I go, it bogs down and my motor sounds like it will blow. A little while back, I had the water pump replaced and we had trouble getting off the fan and stuff. Could we have damaged the fan clutch and that may be the cause of the problem? I dont know if it matters but I dont run the a/c anymore and it still does it.

Message: Definetley not the cat then. It would be boggy all the time. If you badly warped the fan then when the clutch engages it could realy draw power and vibrate and really shudder do to a lack of balance. You would have to have really thrown it out of balance though. Did you use the fan as a leverage point for prying on something??
Be very carefull and see what happens under the hood when iddling and the fan engages.

Message: It is common for the fan clutch to engage in hot weather, and you will hear aloud blower noise associated with a loss of power. That is why a lot of guys have gone to electric fans to prevent this problem. Not something DC will work with you on.
