Subject: Rev question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 93 dakota with the 5.2 and was wondering what is the highest rpm I can rev my engine(106,000mi) to safely? It redlines somewhere between 4500-5000, but I hear some talking about not going above4300 after installing new parts to "break them in".

Message: It is true. When breaking in a car never rev it high until the parts are worn in. If you are replacing parts let it idle for 15min before you drive to get everything set. But for engine that is already broken in it is safe to bring it to the red line but you asked what is the highest and i would say 6500 - 7000 but i wouldn't do it.

Message: I would suggest staying at 5000 or below especially with a higher mileage engine. Anything higher and you are probably above the cam's power range not to mention stock oiling systems are not meant for 6500-7000.
