Subject: HELP-Heater Fan Quit Then Started IP: Logged
Message: My heater blower worked when I drove into town today. On my way home I turned it back on and it didn't work. I fiddled with it all the way home (about 5 miles) and the blower never did come on. When I pulled into my driveway and put the gearshift into park the blower started working. Anyone have any thoughts on this????

Message: That's strange Karl...
My blower motor stopped working about three weeks ago when my Odometer hit 36,163 miles and warranty was out lol. I only have high or off right now, picked up a new blower motor for nearly $50 and have to see how hard the install is since it appears to be behind the dash. I have a CD Rom with factory service manual so it should go easier than just flyin by the seat of my pants.
Anyone else change the fan blower motor on a 2001 Dakota?

Message: i pulled the whole blower motor assembly out of my dash... not easy. I had to remove the whole dash but you might be able to get to just the motor without removing the dash.

Message: Karl & 2THEXTRM,
check the resistor first, the motors & switches hardly ever fail.

Message: 2THEXTRM, DON'T remove your blower motor! If you
have high speed and no med or low, it's more
than likely your resistor pack located in the
duct work. Locate that first, remove it and
have it tested.
Let me know what you find out... If your motor
was shot, no speed would work...

Message: Thanks for the feedbacks and suggestions. I forgot to mention my dak is a 2002 sport v6 cc.
I didn't see where anyone else had the problem of the heater blower not working then started working when the gearshift was put in park. Maybe it was just a fluke and it won't happen again. If it does it will probable be 20 deg below zero. I live in Indiana

Message: the resistor is probobly on the fire wall on the passenger side. 2 screws will remove it from the fire wall and you will see a curly wire that has corroded off the connection. either re-connect it or replace it.

Message: Thanks Dennis-
I will check out the resistor and curly wire on the firewall. I assume you mean in the engine compartment.
Thanks!

Message: I had this happen to me. It is not your blower motor!! It is the resistor type switch that has partially quit working. It is usually located inside the cab, under the dash, near the blower motor.

Message: I took my wifes van into the dealer today so I asked about the heater blower motor on my Dak. They said they have had several people come in where the heater blower, windshield wipers and radio would sometimes not work and then would work. They said the cause was the ignition switch. Said next time it happens just move the key and it will work. Seems to me if this is an ongoing problem they would replace the switch.
