Subject: Lowering the Rear of my RT 1 inch? HELP! IP: Logged
Message: Group:
I want to lower my rear of my 01 Dakota RT std cab 1 inch. That would make the wheel well heights about the same (front, and back). I searched and I could only find a 2 inch lowering kit for the rear.
Does anyone know of a kit that lowers the REAR only 1 inch?
Thanks allot:

Message: I think the only way to lower it 1" is to get a 1" block. its also the cheapest and easiest.

A 1 inch block is the only way that I know to get a 1 inch drop on the back. They are fairly easy to install and are only about $20.

Message: kragen sells them, and all you need is a socket and ratchet (if you dont have air tools). just unbolt the u-bolts and jack up the axle, then install the block between the axle and leafspring. tighten down the bolts and you are 1" lower. should take like 30 min.

Message: Try to never use blocks. They hurt off the line traction and do nothing good whatsoever for actuall handling performance. It destbalizies the rear end by allowing more leverage in all directions where the axle meets leafs. Yes they are easy and cheap but that is also reflected in the end product.

Message: I called Kragen, and tried to order. They later e-mailed and said part was either discontinued, or not available. It was made by a company called "SUPERIOR". I can't find this company on the net.
Any one know another company who sells 1 inch drop kits for my 01 Dakota RT Std Cab ?

Message: find a local tool and die shop to make them they could do it out of scrap metal for next to no cost, but a tool and die shop usually charges $50 to $60 an hour for labor so if you are really in need of the blocks you can check there. Industrial machine shops can also do the work.

Message: How come here you all are saying a 1" block can be used to lower the Dakota, and somewhere else it is being discussed that a 1" block will raise the rear of a Dakota? Are the springs mounted above or below axle?

Message: in stock form, the springs go under the axle. by putting a block between the axle and spring that will lower the truck. to use a block to raise the truck, you will have to install a flip kit.( which will raise the truck about 6" by its self)

I have ordered a 1 inch lowering kit from DJM Suspensions. They say its specially designed for the Dakota R/T. This should "level" out the look of my truck.
Here is the link:
http://www.djmsuspension.com/Products/ProductsByMake/Dodge/DakotaRT-Parts.htm
It cost me about $75. plus 6-7 bucks shipping.
I will let you all know how it turns out.
Yes the RT Dakota has the leaf springs below the axle.

Message: Darryl-
The blocks are made of cast aluminum alloy, with a hardened steel pin in the center that fits into the spring seat on the axle. The pin is there to prevent dislocation of the seat during spring windup from the axle housing twisting backwards. The pin reinforces the connection between the seat and the block and relieves the stress at this point. If you were to make them, I would highly suggest you design this in somehow...
to save you from potential high dollar shellout for repairs. Good luck, later..
