Message: I just took my chrome rims off my truck before all the snow and salt comes here in Michigan. I have them stored in a storage shed right now, so weather is not really going to touch them besides the cold. My question is, should I put anything on them during the winter? I know one of my buddies put vasoline on his. Any input would be great. Thanks guys

Message: Eh? Are your rims going to rust? If they are stored in a garage or storage facility, I don't see any problems with them. Unless someone knows something special about rims that I don't.. They probably take a far worse beating mounted on your truck for one week than they would sitting idle for 5 months.

Message: One thing to watch for is condensation from changing temperatures. Especially if you stare your wheels/tires in those nice bags the tire store sometimes gives out. A perfect recipe for rust. WD 40 is good, vasaline is good (b**ch to clean off), KY (enough said). Go to your local auto parts store and pick up some RustCheck, Krown or any commercial rust preventative spray and coat your wheels. Try to keep it off the rubber. In the spring it cleans up easily with mineral spirit or Bug and Tar remover.

Message: Thanks guys. I think I'm just going to put them in some trash bags, and let them just sit there.. There's no condensation in there, so i dont think i have to be too worried

Message: I've seen people coat them in bering grease, but I don't know how effective it would be.
It may help if you can pick up some of those silicone packets that they use to absorb moisture. One in each bag should really keep the humidity out.

Message: brad, that's the worst thing you could do. reread ch4ngv's post. all it takes is one warmer then usual day and you'll have condensation. there isn't any condensation on a beer until you take it out of the fridge.

Message: When I winterize a motorcycle I usually cover it with a wool blanket, to absorb any condensation.
If you put them in trash bags make sure they are not air tight. and you will want something in the bags to absorb the moisture.
Think about a rain slicker, keeps you dry at first then you start sweating on the inside.
I would just stack them in the corner and cover them with an old blanket or comforter.
If you are really woried buy a sheet of blywood and stack them 2 high in your living room.
lay the plywood ontop and BLAM winter coffee table! Just depends on how redneck you are.
