Message: Do you also hear that noise when you stop?
If so it seems to be typical of MOPAR auto's.
My "93" Lebaron has been doing this since new
over 100,000 miles on it now and no problems.

Message: If what you describe is a buzzing sound (or a fast clicking sound) it is normal. All relatively recent Chrysler automatics do it. It is the sound of the pump moving fluid to change gears. It actually happens with every shift, but you can usually only hear it when shifting from P-R, P-D, D-R, and occasionally pulling up to a stop light as the transmission shifts into first gear. All other times road noise prevents you from hearing it. If your transmission wasn't making the sound, you'd likely be stuck in one gear.

Message: My 2001 Dakota does this as well. My local dealer said that it normal on the 4.7 V-8 equipped trucks.

Message: 1999 dakota 3.9 automatic
Every time the transmission shifts into
overdrive and the tourque converter lock-up
kicks in , there is an instant NOTICEABLE
vibration. This starts at about 72 klicks and
smooths out at about 85 klicks. This does not
sound like an engine labouring sound
although I've been told by my dealership that
it's normal and there is nothing they can do
about it. THIS IS NOT NORMAL !! ADVICE
PLEASE

Message: A few times I have not completely shifted the auto into reverse, and when I roll it emits a loud clicking noise. I'm sure it is a bad sound but after being a little more carefull, it hasn't happened in a while. So I don't sweat it, again it only happens when shifting into reverse.
