Subject: Buying advice for a Quad Cab IP: Logged
Message: Hey there Dakota lovers. I need some advice:
I will be buying a QC in the near future. My
problem is that I want one loaded with a bucket
seat but there are none around.
My choices are:
1. Buy one now while the $2000 factory rebate is
active and get a QC with a bench seat.
2. Wait until the 2002 and get exactally what I
want but pay about $3000 more than a 2001.
3. Wait for about 6-8 months until the prices go
down again and maybe DC will offer the rebate again.
So its buy now with a bench seat or wait and pay
more...... so any advice would be most helpfull
Thanks in advance

Message: I couldn't find buckets around here either. Had to order mine that way.
If you wait for a couple of months the dealers will be chompin' at the bit to unload the 2001's before the 2002's get in. Should be able to save a few bucks by waiting.
But, I'm like Hawkeye. Too damned impatient.... ;o)
Good luck!

Message: I ordered my QC with buckets. I wanted the center console. My QC was ordered with a manual so the center bench would have been un-useable. If you place an order for 2001 before the end of the rebate, Daimler Chrysler will honor that rebate then you could everything you want.

Message: I faced the same dilemma and decided to buy the truck, which should be in on 7/5/01. I’ve sat in the bucket seats and the split bench. They are both comfortable and both styles allow for the seats to move independently. Basically I decided that bucket seats weren’t worth $3,000.
Also, according to my dealer, initially there won’t be any cash incentives on the 2002s, and no guarantee that there will ever be a $2000 cash allowance on the 2002s. And remember, the MSRP on the 2002s will probably be higher than on the 2001s

Message: Damn, George! $3,000 for buckets? It was a $200 option on my sticker. Where'd you come up with that figure?

Message: George we think alike, I will probably just goet
one with the bench. Although I talked to a dealer
that is looking into swapping a bucket out of
another dakota for me.
$3000 refers to $2000 in rebate and the few %
increase between the 2001 and 2002 models

Message: Jay,
If you could get a dealer to swap seats that's great! But I would be very surprised. My dealer sells them "as is" from the factory unless you are willing to pay for accessories.
Finally Jay, the decision is up to you. For me it was a trade off between buying my ideal truck(sometime in the future) and saving $3,000(and having a truck this July). After reviewing some of my wish list options, I realized that they weren't necessary or could be installed after market.
I wish you all the best.

Message: tell the dealer to find the truck in another dealers inventory and swap for it ! when I got mine they had already initated a swap for a truck with what I wanted, but I found one I liked better on the lot.
I have the buckets and I like em ! Although the benck is just as comfortable, I like haveing the console and it keeps people from crowding you while you drive.

Message: I talked to a few dealers around here about swaping the seat. One said it would cost over $2,000 because he had to order all the parts. Another dealer said he would look into swaping them out of another dakota or a durango. He will call me later today. I think I'm going to do what George did and buy a truck that is almost perfect and save the $3,000. Hell its only a seat LOL.
Detlman: I have had at least 3 dealers look for the perfect truck and there are none in the western zone at all. So basically I'm SOL on that front.
Thanks again for all your advice. Who knows I may come back here in a few days saying "I got my new truck!(with a bench)"
