Message: Seems to me that chevy is copying Dodge. Dodge used the name Dakota and now cheby is using colorado. As if that wasn't enough, they are using a five cyl engine? Is it a diesel? Mercedes uses a 5 cyl diesel. Anything else they copied from DC???? Anyway, at least the whinny cry-babies will end up leaving this board for the piece of junk cheby.

Message: Don't look now, but the Dakota has some real competition. Chevy made an excellent marketing move. The Dakota QC is the hottest selling mid/small size PU. But it's expensive, gets horrible gas mileage, and quality is an issue we all know about. Most folks who buy these PU/SUV's never use all the capabilities that they have: they don't tow, or get off road, or even live where it snows a lot. It's a commuter and grocery getter. But folks buy them because it makes their ego feel good.
So Chevy took a close look, and designed a truck for what it really gets used for, but marketed it as competition for the Dakota - cheap competition. The real truck guys won't buy one for obvious reasons. But how many of us are there? And don't sell the I-5 short. I'd bet that it makes a lot of torque, doesn't weigh much, and gets decent economy.
I'm not interested. But I bet they sell as many as they can make. Which is a good thing, because the price of a Dakota will have to drop to be competitive. Maybe I can afford a Hemi Dakota ;)

Message: Y'all, I am a big Dodge fan, but it does look like chevy has presented a challenge to the dakota. Yes, the new colorado has a front end that resembles the avalanche, but, its does look good. the inline five is rated at 220hp, and torque at 225 ft. lbs. I have no intentions of buying a chevy as for the reputation that i feel that chevy owners have, but this is somethin that should not be taken lightly. I found a couple of website with more info and pictures, maybe these have been posted, but here they are.

Message: Motorweek on PBS TV last Saturday tested a Colorado with the 220hp/auto. It had the little suicide rear doors. 16.5sec.@85mph in 1/4mi., 8.7sec. 0-60mph. I'm not too impressed.

Message: Sorry, it was a 4-door ala Quad Cab. Still slower than your average 4.7 Dak QC. More info on Motorweek's site: www.pbs.org/mpt/motorweek. Click on "recent road tests" and scroll down to "2004 Chevy Colorado".

Message: According to Motorweek a 2000 Dakota crew cab 4x4 with a 4.7 (only Dakota tested) it only does 16.3 @82mph. Granted its a 2000 but has the truck changed that much?????
