Subject: tranny problems IP: Logged
Message: before i get into this i have been trying to research this problem quite a bit on here and have read alot of posts with people having similar problems as i. to start off i have an '01 r/t and the transmission seems to be getting very flaky. here is the breakdown. first when i mash the pedal from a stop it will hit around 5500 rpms and start bouncing like it's hitting the rev limiter. i have read some other posts and is this normal? second the check engine light came on about a week ago. now it takes way to long to shift into second and when it goes from second to third it seems like it can't make up its mind about which gear to go into. it's like it hesitates before finally deciding to stay in 3rd. next, i hear a whining sound when i get up to around 20 - 25 mph coming from the tranny. next, ( and this might be to do with the rear end) when i turn it sounds like the rear end is making a noise.
alot of the other threads say that the solenoids in the tranny could be the problem. i just want to make sure of it before i go spending money for the dealer to "look" at it. any help would be greatly appreciated and i thank you guys in advance for any info you might have on this.

oh almost forgot i tried getting the computer to throw me a code for the check engine light and all it will say is "done" in the odometer screen. no numbers no nothing, just "done" like it has no problems. weird..

Message: Sounds like those friggin selenoids. Friggin electronics. It's really rediculous that 34 years after we landed on the moon, we can't have reliable electronics for a damned transmission.

Message: Yes it sounds like th solenoid problems. SOmetimes though when u have old tranny fluid and clogged tranny filter it can cause the same thing but, take it to the dealer and get it checked out and tell them do to a complete tranny flush not just what's in the pan but everything it costs around $100 for complete tranny flush but it is worth it !

Message: yeah i guess there was more to the problem than met the eye. service department called today and said that the planetary was all jacked up and the overdrive had seperated. they are gonna rebuild it totally. so hopefully that won't be happening again. has anyone else with an '01 had any problems with their tranny similar to this?

Message: I had this problem occur a lot on my 01 R/T... I tried adjusting the TV cable, but it never completely removed the problem - eventually the transmission shifts would be so bad that it was almost undriveable. I took it into the dealership and they replaced the valve body (twice) on my transmission and all of the bad symptoms went away for awhile. The only way I completely removed the rev limiter issues was to get the B&G PCM Flash.

Message: does the b&g pcm flash get rid of the rev limiter totally or just move it up to 6 grand? if so then how much did they charge you for that?

Message: The B&G flash moves the shift points from 4800rpm to 5000rpm (base flash) or 5400rpm ("M1" flash), and the fuel cutoff gets boosted up to 7000rpm.
There's other elements to the flash such as top speed limiter changes, air/fuel curve changes, torque management removed, etc. etc.
The total cost right now is $430+ shipping for 01-03's.

Message: I had a tranny flush for 145.00. And its still shifts F-cked up!!
Sometimes it likes to hang into second. But it's not as much when you add some Lucos to it.

Message: Lando: Are you still within the factory warranty, or are you using an extended warranty? They shouldn't be able to deny your transmission warranty because of a missing catalytic converter, that's illegal under the Magnusson-Moss act. Unfortunately I'm seeing more and more cases where people like you and I (this happened to me too) are being screwed by the dealerships, and they're almost daring you to get a lawyer to try and make things right.

Message: no steve. i'm not under the factory warranty. i wish i was but i don't know if it would help or not. its an extended warranty. they claim that they warranty guy came and inspected the truck and denied the claim becasue of the missing third cat. said they could not touch it becasue it was a violation of federal law. you are right about the magnusun moss act of 1975. it says that if they deny the warranty that they have to prove that the part in question that was removed or added was the one that caused the tranny to fail. but you know how dealerships are about crap like that. they even had the balls to try and get me to buy another car off their lot instead. what a bunch of bs. i get more and more pissed off the more i think about it. i tried to talk to the general manager of the dealership today but he "was in a meeting" and never called me back. so now i have to wait till monday to resume the battle. if you have any suggestions or anything at all the would help me out i would greatly appreciate it. we might have to rally the troops on this forum and i'll give out the phone number to the dealership and we can let them know just what we think about it all. i'm not gonna go down without a fight and i will get them to replace that tranny. there is no reason at all why the tranny in an '01 should be blowing up on me, and they are just using this loophole to try and get out of the warranty work. i think i might try the chrysler consumer care line and explain to them my plight as another option. seems to me like dodge would want to keep a guy who has bought 4 dakotas.
