Subject: Torque Management mod worked on my car.. IP: Logged
Message: OK. My 2003 Dak was too new to do the Torque Management Request mod.
However I did it on our Chrysler Cirrus and it worked like a charm.
This car SUCKS when it shifts. Not only did it shift SLOWLY as h*ll, but the exhaust sounded like utter crapola when it shifted!
So today I tapped into the signal from the TCM to the PCM and wired in a switch at the gear selector inside for a PERFORMANCE / COMFORT selector.
D*mn, now with it (torque management) is switched off the car does not back off on power at shifts and I can really feel the difference. This is awesome because I'm installing a S/C on this pig in the future.
Seeing that this is similar to the Dakos thru 2002 this info may help some of you.
I spliced into this wire here.
And installed this switch next to the gear selector to switch the torque management on or off. Basically my woman likes it to shift soft. I like it to shift hard. Kinda the same thing when we are...err...uh... actually she likes the way I do that just fine. What was I saying?
Anyway. This may give you some ideas on your older Dak's. I wish it worked on my 2003.

Message: Thanks guys.
I have the 2003 Dakota 4.7
It didn't work but people are claiming that it does on the 2000 thru 2002 4.7's and I think the older Dak's too.
From my experience witn my 2003 Dak, the info I find online, and my 98 Cirrus, it seems that Chrysler has used the same color wire in different models. that may make it easy.
And h*ll yes it helped. I don't think it retards the timing at ALL when I switch it off. I mean this FWD car lunges when it shifts with NO change in exhaust sound where before it felt like you let off the gas when it shifted and the exhaust sounded kind of hollow.
My woman drives the car on a daily basis. I have a company vehicle and my truck sits at home during the day. So I haven't played with her car any more since last night. But it worked like a charm and the switch is basically the same as in older Nissan's etc where they had that performance / comfort tranny switch in the console.
This mod will cost you $10 if you were to buy wire, the switch, and some bullet connectors.

Message: Thanks Justi. It may help someone with a pre 2003 Dak.
I just like working on my cars and always take pics. Plus I sometimes take one for the team just to try something. And sometimes I try to go a little further than the rest if I can. :-)

Message: Funny thing.
I posted this on a website for Chrysler "cloud" cars like the Sebring, Avenger, etc which are almost the same thing as our Cirrus.
So some guys tried it and their car ran like sh*t.
Turns out that Yellow wire with a green stripe is one of the fuel injectors on their PCM!
Someone looked it up and it is a Orange wire with a black stripe for those. Funny. Same engine and tranny but they changed the colors!
So, anyone doing this should spend the $15 on a manual from autozone and look up the schematics for THEIR truck and find the section that shows a TCM (Transmission Control Module) and has a VSS (power supply) coming from the PCM and a Signal wire labled something like "Torque Management Request" going back to the PCM. That is the wire you need to OPEN by cutting into and installing a switch. I really recommend the switch.
On our car I switch it ON, (closed circuit) and hammer it to feel what it is stock. Then I stop and switch it OFF which opens the circuit and then hammer it again. WHat a difference!
The front end pulls up during the shift under power vs. before it killed the power during the shift and made the exhaust sound like sh*t!
