Subject: Anti Lock Brakes IP: Logged
Message: My girl friend and i were taking a trip to six flags some time ago and she made a sudden stop that caused the anti lock brakes to lock and the car had become immobilized. Is there a way that i can unlock the brakes myself without haveing to go to a mechanic to get it fixed and have to pay mad money for it, or do i have to take it to a machanic?

Message: What exactly happened?
The brakes completely locked up and the wheels no longer spin or after this event, the brakes will lock up like a non-anti-lock brake system will?
When an anti-lock system fails, it is supposed to become a regular set of brakes. If the regular brakes will no longer allow the wheels to turn at all, I would check inside the drum to see if a spring has come loose or broken.
How did you drive home without the wheels turning?

Message: Anti lock breaks sense axle or wheel stopping during breaking and momentarly release the brake. ABS is not going to lock the brakes.

Message: I have had a simmilar problem. My rear brakes lock up all of the time, and I have 235 75 R15's on. I get plenty of traction to the point of not being able to spin my tires that easy but my rear brakes just started locking up when I come near to a stop. It's not like I'm slamming them down either. If I am careful they don't have any problems but this is all new. It's not just one tire either. I was wondering if it was wear on the pads.
