Subject: Which Transmission? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 with 4.7L and manual transmission. I bought the factory service manual and it alludes to two or three different transmissions.
It states there are close and wide ratio transmissions, NV3500 and NV3550 all in the section on the manual transmission.
I go to the New Venture gear site and find a NV3500 close, NV3500 wide, NV3550, and NV3500HD. It appears the NV3550 also was offered with the close and wide ratio gearing. I also noticed the NV3500's and NV3550's also come with two different OD (5th) gear ratios.
Anyone have any idea how one would identify just what is installed in my truck? The service manual neglects to state where the identification numbers are and what they mean, once found.
I have searched the archives and finally gave up trying to find the answer in the past messages. Please forgive me if this is a repeat thread that has already been answered.
Thanks,
Dave

Message: Where would they attach the brass or copper tag? Would the dealer put a new one on if they replaced the transmission?
