Subject: Multi-Speed Auto Shifs By Itself! IP: Logged
Message: Have a 2001 DAK QC with the multi-speed auto, 4.7/Limited-Slip/AWD
Driving into work today in D (drive) at 60MPH with OD on, pulling 2000 RPM, all of a sudden, the truck slows and the exhaust is booming and the rpms jump to 4300-4500.
I see that the automatic gear shift lever is in 2 (2nd gear)...it shifted by itself...has this ever happened to anyone?
When leaving home, I always ensure I'm solidly in Drive, OD is on and I'm in AWD and not 4HI.
No harm done? I nailed it from a stop and the truck took off, shifted ok, behaved normal.
FWIW, I put in a JET CHIP Stage II and Flowmaster Dual Exhaust this past weekend, suspect no relationship, right?
Thanks....

Message: Mace, your fine. What happened was that it was not fully seated in drive even though it seemed like it was. This has happened a couple of times with me. Kinda un-nerving when it happens. Just have to double check that its locked in drive good.

Message: as long as the changes you made do not touch your transmission shift cable why are you worried that those changes may have caused your problem? no what is really going on is as Hawkeye described, we are human and we can check and recheck and still be wrong and the shifter we think that is in D is really not quite there and it slips into 2

Message: That happened to me last year doing 70mph on Interstate 80. It takes a short time to get used to having the gearshift just right sometimes.
