It all comes down to what you like. I like Dakotas and Rams and Mopar musclecars. My dad has
a 4-cyl Tacoma 2WD work truck with 200k. He drives it 300 miles a day. He got it for mileage (28mph hwy). It's a little truck with uncomfortable seats so he sits on a seat cushion. He's only had to do routine maintenance and brake pads at 130k. I hate the fact that a Jap truck is in my driveway but he says his Dakota is too big and too nice for his work. So I can understand. I'd hate to see his 2002 Dakota driven 300 miles a day. I'll tell you what happened in a nutshell. Japan wanted to rebuild the empire back in WWII. They surrendered after we bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Do you think they have forgotten about that? They didn't have the resources Germany had to rebuild. Jap inventors and scientists and all kind of techs took ours and European ideas and inventions back to their little island and improved upon them. They teamed up with shrewd businessmen and clever politicians to get their share of the global market and now it is much more than their share.
Our leaders have let this happen. They had nothing and now they have everything because the Japs are a proud and smart people with a long memory. They won't quit until them and Wal-Mart rule the world together. I'm personally ashamed that as Mopar as I am, that the Germans own Chrysler now, but I'm just as proud as ever to drive a Dodge. To each his own. If nobody bought anything American, what do you think will happen?

I just said why I didn't buy a Tacoma. It was my own opinion. I know Detriot put out bad products in the 80's and into the 90's, but they are better. In fact, I know Dodge has imporved a lot in the last 3-4 years because I read consumer reports reviews on the Dakota and that is just what they said. They gave the pre 99 Dakotas terrible reviews, and gradually they got better reviews. The 03 Dakota got great reviews...And that is what I bought.

It's funny. People often refer to themselves not as what they are but as what they would like to be.
For example, Dr. D. is not a doctor. He's just some pimply faced 16 year old Crapkota driving burger flipper making $4.50/hr but he believes if he calls himself a doctor people will have respect for him.
In my case, I refer to myself as a BadMoFo who is constantly getting beat up by my sister and anally raped by my moms pimp daddy. Calling myself a BadMoFo makes me feel like I'm actually a tough guy when the opposite is true.

I forgot to mention the 2000 Dakota received
J.D. Power and Associates award for most appealing compact pickup. Their opinion of the 2000-up Dakotas just gets better every year. Their opinion of the pre 2000 Dakotas was not so good. I currently own an '01 and I love it. I loved my '97 too, but it was a 6 and I wanted an 8. There was nothing wrong with it. I have owned nothing but Dodges, Plymouths, and Chryslers and will never switch. If Toyota made a truck that looks better than a Dodge then maybe I might like them. I like the looks of a Tacoma from the side, but from the front it just leaves something to be desired. It's the same with Chevy, and Ford. I just can't see myself in one of them. As I said before, it comes down to what you prefer. I've ridden in a super-charged TRD Tacoma and it was impressive for a six. There just ain't any room inside. It was a very nice truck though. But it's Japanese. I bought my '01 Dak used because I don't want to buy a brand new one. Now when we buy a Dak made in Warren, Michigan we're not only supporting our U.S. auto workers but we're paying tribute to Mercedes. I lose either way. I might as well start eatin' Kraut and then go disembowel myself on a Samuri sword. I guess if I was Japanese living in Japan, I would hate the U.S. and would be driving a Tacoma. I wouldn't complain about the uncomfortable seats either. My opinion is Tacomas are nice trucks. They are built well and are dependable. They look nice, but need better styling on the hood, grill, and front bumper. The 4WD's sit up really nice and you can get a good size tire under them with not much lift. They do pretty good off-road too from what I've seen myself. The super-charged Tacoma I rode in had a Flowmaster exhaust and sound really good for a six. They are good trucks, but I just like
Dakotas a lot more. Especially since my girlfriend really likes it and wants a Dak instead of her Ram.

Mopar 4-ever, that was very impressive. It's nice to actually see someone on these boards with some respect for the companies they dont prefer. We need more people here with views like yours.
To be honest, I was getting tired with all the bashing people have been doing to eachother here, particularly the dodge and toyota guys. All it boils down to is preference. We live in a free country, so we hold the right to choose. If that means I want domestic over import, fine. If I want import over domestic, then thats fine too. Its a right we're all entitled to in this country. Its the narrow-minded ignorance of some people that drives them to refuse to swallow their pride and at least have respect for someone else's opinion. Because in the end, thats all it is. Opinion.

Getting a little off-topic here, but I think it's important.
Bravo (and others) - My sense, and hope, is that there are a lot of people who come to this board and refrain from getting involved in some of these nonsense threads because usually (IMO) the best way to handle arrogant fools is to ignore them. I'll jump in when there's a ligitimate point to be made, but not to just throw crap at each other.
Unfortunately this sometimes creates the impression that the idiots are a predominant force here. Not so.
